Overview

Students will explore STEM concepts while building a working roller coaster with K'NEX Education STEM Explorations Roller Coaster Building Set! The set will engage and energize middle-school children as they boost their understanding of the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) concepts associated with a real-life amusement park ride.

This K'NEX Education Set includes over 500 parts, plus a battery-powered motor, allowing a single child or a team of two to three children to build a working roller coaster. Two additional models are also included in this set - a ramp and a half-pipe -which can be built one at a time. The set requires two AA batteries, which are not included.

Stem Explorations Roller Coaster Building Set

Explore STEM concepts while building a working Roller Coaster! Using the materials included in this set, middle-school aged children will be engaged and energized as they further their knowledge and understanding of the science, technology, engineering and math concepts associated with a real-life amusement park ride. The set includes over 500 parts plus a battery-powered motor for a single child or team of 2-3 children to build a working Roller Coaster, plus 2 additional models: a Ramp and a Half-Pipe (each model can be built one at a time). Once built, a downloadable booklet guides students through 3 hands-on, inquiry-based experiments on each of the models. The Experiment Guide is aligned to national STEM standards and is appropriate for grade levels 5-9. Requires 2 'AA' batteries, not included.
 
Lead Model: Roller Coaster

• K'NEXperiment #1: Making it Through the Roller Coaster Loop. Your objective is to determine the relationship between the mass of an object and the height above the ground at which it must be released in order to pass through the loop.

Additional Model: Ramp

• K'NEXperiment #2: Speed, Distance and Time Using the Ramp Model. Your objective is to learn about speed using distance and time.

Additional Model: Half Pipe

• K'NEXperiment #3: Moving More with Height Using a Half Pipe. Your objective is to explore the concept of relationships between variables. How many times will the car pass through the center of the half pipe depending on how high it is released?
