When the gas in the one end bulb is heated with your hand, the increase in temperature creates an increase in air pressure. This increased pressure pushes the liquid across the tube to the other bulb creating a cool bubbling action. When all of the liquid transfers from the one bulb, air bubbles are forced over the tube, causing the liquid in the other bulb to appear to “boil.”
