All About WPL Crawlers. RTR, Kit, & Metal Kit Versions

Most of the WPL crawlers come in 3 forms: RTR, kit, and metal kit. These budget crawlers are perfect for beginners and experts alike!

RTR

These crawlers come ready-built and with battery, charger, radio, and everything else needed to start crawling right out of the box. This model has a 1-speed transmission and has all plastic construction. You can identify these by the SKU, it will end in “-R”

Kit

These crawlers also have plastic construction and come in an unbuilt kit that has to be assembled. These do not include a battery, charger, ESC, or radio. This model has a 1-speed transmission and has all plastic construction. You can identify these by the SKU, it will end in “-K”

To complete the kit you will need to purchase the electronics kit which includes the esc, battery, charger, and 2-channel radio.

Metal kit

These are identical to the plastic kit except metal upgrades are included with the kit. You can identify these kits by their sku ending in "-KM"

Typically, these are the upgrade parts included, however it may vary for the specific kit:

  • Metal axels
  • Wheel Weights
  • 2 speed transmission
  • Larger motor

* check the product description for the exact upgrade parts

How to Complet a Kit

To complete a metal kit with a 2-speed transmission, you will need to buy a 3-channel radio which comes with the ESC and sound for either gas or diesel. You will also need a battery, charger, and extra wiring harness.

To complete a metal kit with a 1-speed transmission or a plastic kit, you will need to purchase the basic electronics kit which includes the esc, battery, charger, and 2-channel radio.

Other notes

All 3 versions of the crawler are identical except for its state of assembly, included extra upgrade parts, and inclusion of electronics/battery/charger.

The plastic kit or RTR versions of the crawler can be upgraded by purchasing the metal axels and 2-speed transmission separately.

Note: if upgrading to the 2 speed transmission, you will need to buy a 3-channel radio which comes with the ESC and sound for either gas or diesel and the extra wiring harness.
